About
My name is Eyji Koike Cuff and I'm a Python Software Engineer at Testbox Inc.. This blog is my way of combining two passions: building great software and living freely. Whether I’m deep-diving into a programming language, reviewing a book on distributed systems, or writing from a train in Europe, I aim to offer something useful and real. I'm passionate about Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, and the intersection of AI and real-world applications.
With 3+ years of hands-on experience, I began my career grounded in Production Engineering at the Federal Institute of Technology, where I earned a strong foundation in systems thinking and technical problem-solving. Through a U.S. State Department-sponsored program, I further specialized in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) at Sinclair Community College, diving deep into digital electronics, microprocessors, C, databases, and secure networking.
At Eztronic, I designed and programmed custom electronics and sensor systems for industrial and research use. These projects involved everything from writing firmware in C for microprocessors, to creating cross-platform desktop apps using Flutter and Electron.js, often paired with tools like React, Node.js, and Tailwind.
I’ve also worked with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), MQTT, and AWS IoT, building end-to-end systems where real-time data from physical devices was streamed securely to the cloud—turning raw sensor signals into actionable insights.
Today at Testbox, I focus on backend development using Python, Django, and AWS. I create automation tools that interact with customer APIs and UI elements via Selenium, support large-scale data ingestion and transformation, and deploy infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles. I'm also an advocate for better developer experience—frequently writing internal tickets to improve reusability and maintainability of our codebase.
I enjoy balancing my technical life with creative pursuits. I’ve traveled to 8 countries, speak three languages (working on six!), and find joy in painting, gym workouts, and exploring local cultures and cuisines.
If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody.
Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.
